A diverse agricultural business services and training company has been named as a finalist for a prestigious National Women in Agriculture Award.
Vicky Anderson Business Services and Training, based at Ellerbeck, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire has been shortlisted in the NFU-sponsored Business of the Year category, with the winner set to be announced at a glamorous ceremony in London on Tuesday 6 May.
The company, which started from a farmhouse in 1986, provides business management, administrative and consultancy services and is an accredited centre of learning for land-based businesses across the UK.
“As a small, all-female business with seven team members it is a big deal to be nominated for a national award,” says managing director Vicky Anderson. “Even to be shortlisted is great recognition of all the hard work we do. We are a really tight team and that enables us to work well with many businesses in the agricultural industry.”
This isn’t the first time the company has celebrated winning an award. In 2022, it won the North region category at the national Rural Business Awards and in 2021 was handed a Yorkshire Post Rural Award.
Client relationships
Vicky credits their success to the close relationships they build with clients. “What we do goes beyond providing straightforward services. We often act as a support mechanism and go above and beyond our role. The people we work with have trust in us; we work very closely with them and we genuinely care. We also take great pride in delivering high standards and exceptional customer service.
“Recently, some clients needed advice around the changes to inheritance tax and we have guided them through that,” she adds. “We work with a range of businesses, from small farms to big estates and diversified operations. Some of our clients have been with us for over 20 years, so we must be doing something right.”
Now in its second year, the National Women in Agriculture Awards will be held at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Vicky Anderson Business Services and Training is up against three other nominees competing for the Business of the Year title.
“Going to London to be part of the awards ceremony; celebrating women in agriculture alongside lots of high-profile businesses and people will be a great experience,” says Vicky.
